Day 22 – A Song You Listen To When You’re Sad
The Bravery To Weep – Will T. Massey
This is kind of counter-intuitive. If you are sad, I suppose the idea would be to listen to something happy to cheer yourself up a bit. However, if you’re like me, sometimes its good to have a bit of a wallow, and there are times when upbeat stuff would just be too frivolous for the mood and you have to match the music to how you’re feeling. That’s where songs like this come in. The word “weep” in the title somewhat gives it away! Having said that, it does have a positive message about taking stock and unburdening yourself. It deals with themes of how we get caught up in the minutiae of life and don’t pay enough attention to ourselves and how we’re feeling. Very important to do that, as any therapist will tell you.
As with some of my other choices, it also gives me a golden opportunity to include a lesser known artist in my list, in this case the brilliant Will T. Massey. Apologies for the “album cover, audio only” YouTube clip, but I wanted to use the original version rather than a live recording. The album this track is taken from, his first, is number two on my all-time list behind “Born to Run” and I am delighted to be able to give a shout out for it here.
