U is for U2, good enough to be chosen even if I had more U’s in my collection!
Should have posted this last week, but a nasty stomach bug laid me low for Monday and most of Tuesday. So Bono and the rest had to wait for this week. Here are my five choices.
[1] Redhill Mining Town – So typically me to choose an album track (in fact two, see below) from the band’s biggest album, which features several massive hit singles! But this has been my favourite song on “The Joshua Tree” since I first heard it, and still is.
[2] Bad – I love “The Unforgettable Fire”, probably my favourite U2 album overall. Hard to choose just one track but this is the one I like best.
[3] Running To Stand Still – Very “untypical” U2 song this, but I think it is fantastic and stands above the better known songs alongside it on The Josha Tree.
[4] Angel of Harlem – Just a superb tune, always makes me feel good.
[5] Ultraviolet (Light My Way) – Wanted to include something from “Achtung Baby” as it is another album I love, and was a big part of the soundtrack to my first year of university, which was when it came out. Again, a tough choice, but this just about wins out as my number one track from the album.
How tough was it not to include anything from “Zooropa”, which I rushed down to the record shop to buy the morning of release? Not very hard actually, the most disappointing album I have ever purchased considering the anticipation.
My favourites are “Still Haven’t Found” and “City of Blinding Lights” – then again the weekend of the Vintage Fair – Rickie let me have the Glastonbury set on the TV while we were getting bits ready even though she’s not so keen on their newer stuff lol.
No, still don’t like them.
